The Weekend Check-in
“What’s the one thing you’re actually amazing at that isn’t written anywhere on your resume?
We spend so much time trying to fit into a ‘job description’ box that we forget the skills that actually make us “un-replaceable”.
Resumes are stiff. They are lists of dates, titles, and software. But the reason you’ve survived tough shifts, handled angry customers, or fixed a broken process isn’t usually because of a line item on a CV.
It’s because of your “Invisible Skills.” Maybe you’re the person who can calm down a room just by walking into it. Maybe you’re the one everyone goes to when the printer breaks or the schedule is a mess. Maybe you have a “spidey-sense” for when a project is about to go off the rails.
In 2026, companies are realizing that they can teach someone how to use a new AI tool in a week, but they can’t teach someone how to have common sense, a work ethic, or a “can-do” attitude. Those are the things that keep you employed when the “technical” stuff changes.
Take an “Inventory of the Invisible.” You need to find a way to mention these in your next interview or cover letter.
Try this “Human Element” exercise today:
- Ask a “Work Friend”: Send a quick text to someone you’ve worked with before: “Hey, random question, what’s the one thing you always trusted me to handle when things got crazy at our old job?” Their answer is your “Secret Sauce.”
- The “Problem-Solver” Prompt: Think of the last time a shift or a project was a total disaster. What did you do to help? Did you stay late? Did you reorganize the task list? Did you crack a joke to keep morale up?
- Write it Down: Don’t put it in the “Experience” section yet. Put it in your “Profile/Summary” at the top of your resume.
- Example: “Known for maintaining team morale and clear communication during high-pressure deadlines.”
Instead of looking at job boards, look at yourself.
Write down three “Invisible Skills” you know you have.
A job title tells people what you were paid to do. Your invisible skills tell people who you actually are. Don’t leave the best parts of yourself off the page.

Tolu Ojewunmi1 CommentThe skills that keep you valuable are often the ones that never make it into a resume. Calm under pressure. Clear thinking. Reliability. Problem-solving when things get messy. Those are not small things. They are what make people trust you.
